We are a large parish in the Church of England Diocese of Durham, located in the Tees Valley area of the North of England.
We have put together something about us which we hope you find interesting. If you would like more information then please use one of the contact addresses on the Parish Contacts page.
The original church, now the Lady Chapel was dedicated by Bishop Michael Ramsey in June 1955. This was essentially the start of a lot of work to be carried out at this present church site. Prior to the first services being taken at this church, the then vicar, had taken Sunday services at Pentland Primary School across the town square. While the congregation at that time was relatively small, they knew it would grow, and this was only a temporary arrangement. With a lot of hard work by the congregation, some of which are still here today, the Church was built. It soon outgrew the original building and the plans for an extension was already on the cards when the first services took place. Not to be deterred by the work that they had already done, the PCC began searching for donations to allow the church to grow even further.
That was the start of what we have today, the picture above shows the main entrance to the Church looking from the East. We currently have a Church capable of holding services for upto 300 people, a Church hall which can hold upto 150 people for various church and social functions, and a lounge with kitchen facilities providing a comfortable area for talks, meetings and a number of other groups including Mothers Union, Baptism Preparation and Confirmation classes.
